Areas of Emphasis

We currently offer majors the options of specializing in one of three thematic areas within geography. You may also craft a more independent course of study with your faculty mentor.

Geographic Information Science (GIScience)
Lidar acquisition

– Advances in the theory and practice of geographic data handling emphasize the use of computer systems for storing, retrieving, analyzing and displaying spatial information.

- Certificate in Geographic Information Science and Remote Sensing

Globalization and Development

Mount Sinai

– The globalization and development area of emphasis within the geography undergraduate major provides students with the tools to understand and critically analyze current economic, social, and cultural processes that shape our world.

Natural Resources and the Environment

– A rapidly expanding interest in the environment and sustainable development places Geographers in a good position to analyze natural and human-influenced changes and investigate measures to maintain environmental systems.
